Plastic Free July is here and this year, we're making it easier (and more fun) than ever for our Wasatch Back community to join in.
This July, we're hosting two community events and challenging all of us to rethink our relationship with single-use plastic, one swap at a time.
Why It Matters
Plastic Free July is a global movement that's inspired more than 170 million participants across 190 countries to reduce plastic waste through simple, everyday choices. The mission is simple: refuse single-use plastics, and discover alternatives that actually stick.
The stats are sobering. Of the estimated 10 billion metric tons of plastic ever produced, only about 9% has been recycled. The rest has piled up in landfills, been incinerated, or made its way into our oceans and waterways. If current trends continue, scientists warn there could be more plastic than fish in the ocean by weight by 2050.
"I started fulFILLed Lifestyle Co. because I believed low-waste living shouldn't require a PhD or feel like a sacrifice. It should be easy, joyful, and something the whole family can do together," says founder Kimberly Flores. "Plastic Free July is the perfect invitation to start. All month long, we're running a community Plastic-Free Bingo challenge. Here's how it works:
- Grab a card β pick one up in-store at Junction Commons, at Recycle Utah, or download one right here.
- Check off plastic-free actions as you complete them β bring your own bag, try a shampoo bar, shop secondhand, start a trash audit.
- Get a bingo (any row β horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) and bring your card into the shop for 20% off your next purchase.
- Share your progress on social and tag us for a chance to be featured.

OnΒ Wednesday, July 22, we're teaming up with Recycle Utah and Zero Waste Wasatch Back to bring the Netflix documentary The Plastic Detox to the big screen β free and open to everyone.

The Plastic Detox reveals the startling effects plastics and toxic chemicals are having on our bodies β from rising rates of cancer and chronic illness to a growing fertility crisis affecting millions of families. A short Q&A with local partners follows the screening.
